LEV KOPPEL’S RESIDENCE AND SUKKAH

LEV KOPPEL’S RESIDENCE AND SUKKAH

The Jewish Museum Franconia in Schwabach is located in the former Jewish home of Moses Löw Koppel in Synagogengasse. It is equipped with a jewel of European-Jewish cultural heritage that is unique: a historic tabernacle with wall frescoes from the late Baroque period. Visitors can also embark on an exciting journey through time through the Jewish history of Schwabach in the historic Synagogengasse (Synagogue Alley) and the surrounding area with an App.

A gem of European-Jewish cultural heritage was discovered in Synagogengasse 10a during renovation work around 2000: a historic tabernacle with impressive murals from the late Baroque period. The symbolic content of the wall painting is unique in Western Europe.

The exhibition uses historical traces in the building and animated films to convey the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, the history of the building as well as the Jewish history of Schwabach. Annual changing exhibitions on the first and second floor deepen further aspects of Jewish history and culture.
